conductor

As a conductor, I'm particularly interested in how to work with different styles and genres in different ways, what tools you can use to make different types of music sound as good as possible, and the benefits of working with various genres in this manner. This means that I often have a particular focus on the rhythmic aspect of the music, genre and stylistic peculiarities, and how to work with interaction in different ways and with different starting points - and the benefits of working with different music on the music's terms.

I often work on various projects as a conductor in combination with being an arranger or composer. This allows me to tailor the various arrangements to an even greater extent to the needs of the ensemble/project/soloist/
musician, thus ensuring a better result and experience for those involved.

Selected projects I have conducted in recent years include

  • Gershwin concert with Kolbu Janitsjar, with Gunda-Marie Bruce and Gunnar Flagstad as soloists (Rhapsody In Blue and Concerto in F)

  • Norwegian Wind band championships with Hygge Korpsensemble

  • Christmas concert with Hæljeswingen Big band, Gjøvik Symphony Orchestra, Leif Anders Wentzel and the vocal group Attitunes

  • The performance Flere Farger Gjøvik/Toten with Orkester Innlandet, professional band and 100 children on stage (musical director)

  • Several productions of self-composed music with Hæljeswingen Big Band and The New Norwegian Big Band, also with orchestra (read more here).

As part of the master's program in composition at NMH, I also participated in various workshops and projects focused on conducting rhythmic music with large jazz ensembles, including a workshop with NDR Bigband in January 2022 as one of three invited young conductors (read more here).

In addition to this, in recent years I have conducted or led Bjørvika Business Band, OJKOS (with music by Richard Koster), Birkelunden Big Band, Drammen Big Band, Østre Toten Big Band, Oppsal Janitsjar, Romsås Janitsjar, Romsås Big Band, and Eidsvoll Big Band, to name a few.
